What Rotate PDF Can Do

  • Individual & Bulk Rotate

Rotate single pages or apply orientation adjustments across the whole document.

  • Permanent Orientation Flags

Writes the page's own /Rotate value, so the orientation holds in every viewer and printer.

  • Interactive Thumbnail Grid

Visual thumbnail previews update in real time as you click rotate.

  • Lossless Transformation

Changes one number per page. No image is recompressed and no text is re-drawn.

  • Match Orientation

Sweep the targeted pages so they all end up portrait or all landscape, or straighten pages that arrived pre-rotated back to 0°. Square pages are skipped.

Tools & Settings Reference

Target Pages
All, odds, evens, landscape, portrait, or a custom range. Everything below acts on the targeted pages only, and the count is shown live.
Rotate -90° / 180° / +90°
Adds to whatever rotation the page already carries rather than replacing it, so a page that arrived at 90° and gets +90° ends up at 180°.
Match Orientation
Turns targeted pages a quarter turn at a time until the page is the shape you picked. Square pages are skipped. It works on page shape only and cannot tell which way up the text reads.
Straighten Targeted to 0°
Cancels the rotation the pages arrived with. The Reset buttons only drop your own changes, so a page that came in at 180° would otherwise still be saved at 180°.
Compress output streams
On by default, matching what the PDF writer does anyway. Turn it off to write a larger file that viewers older than PDF 1.5 can still open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some basic viewers only rotate the client viewport temporarily. PDFixel modifies the internal `/Rotate` integer attribute in the PDF Page Object Dictionary (e.g. `/Rotate 90`), making orientation permanent across Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, iOS, and print drivers.

Yes. Set Target Pages to Landscape and the rotation buttons will only touch those, or use the per-page buttons on any thumbnail. The sidebar shows how many pages the current target covers before you apply anything.

No. The tool loads the document, changes the /Rotate value on the pages you picked, and saves. Pages are not re-rendered, and images, fonts, bookmarks, form fields and document metadata stay as they were. A page you delete is removed from the file completely, together with its form fields, and bookmarks or links that pointed at it no longer go anywhere. A page stored at an angle that is not a multiple of 90° is snapped to the nearest quarter turn. Rotating a digitally signed PDF invalidates the signature, and the tool warns you about that.

That depends on the protection. A PDF that needs a password to open is refused, and the tool tells you to remove the password with Unlock PDF first. A PDF that opens without a password but blocks printing or copying is rotated, and the rotated copy no longer carries those restrictions. A note with the result says so, and you can re-apply them afterwards with Lock PDF.

Bookmarks that pointed at a page you removed stop working, because the destination they refer to is no longer there. Every other bookmark is preserved. The tool checks whether the document has a bookmark tree and tells you when a deletion is likely to have broken one.
