What Add Watermark Can Do
💧Tiled Mosaic Patterns
Repeat the stamp across the whole page on an even lattice, with the spacing you choose.
🎨Custom Opacity & Blending
Fine-tune transparency (5-100%) so text remains easily readable underneath.
🖼️Text & Logo Images
Stamp styled text, or a PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP logo at its own aspect ratio, with its transparency kept.
📐9-Point Anchor Placement
Align watermarks to corners, edges, or the centre, or place them by percentage of the page.
📑Preview in Page Units
The live preview is drawn in the page's own point space, so the size, angle, spacing and margins you see are the ones written to the PDF.
Tools & Settings Reference
- Watermark Type (Text / Image)
- Type custom security text, or upload a logo as PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP. WebP, GIF and BMP are converted to PNG in your browser, keeping their transparency; an animated GIF uses its first frame.
- Font Size (12 - 144 pt)
- Measured in points, the same unit the PDF uses — not screen pixels.
- Opacity Slider (5% - 100%)
- Controls the transparency level of the watermark. In tiled mode each stamp carries its own opacity, so overlapping tiles darken where they meet.
- Rotation Angle (-180° to +180°)
- Positive turns clockwise. The default -45° gives the classic diagonal that climbs from bottom-left to top-right.
- Tile Spacing (80 - 400 pt)
- Distance between stamps in the tiled lattice, in points. 80 is the floor: closer than that and the stamps overlap so heavily the page becomes unreadable. On very large pages the spacing is widened so no page gets more than 1,500 stamps, and the preview shows the spacing used.
- Draw behind content
- Puts that layer under the existing page text and graphics in the exported PDF. It is set per layer, so a logo can sit behind the page while a DRAFT stamp stays on top.
- Apply to
- All pages, odds, evens, a custom range such as 1-3, 5 or 8-, or pages you tick individually. The choice applies to the document on screen and each queued file keeps its own, shown on its card; one click applies the same choice to every PDF in the queue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Drop the PDF in, type the watermark text (CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT, say) or upload a logo (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP), then set the size, opacity and angle. Place it with the 9-point grid or turn on Tiled mode to repeat it across the whole page, choose which pages get it, and download. Everything runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded while you do it.
Tiled mode repeats your text or logo on an even grid across the whole page at the spacing you set, so no crop or screenshot of one region loses the identifier. Each stamp is rotated by whatever angle you chose — at the default -45° the result reads as a diagonal mesh.
Yes. Turn on "Draw behind content" for that layer and it is drawn before the page's own content, so the text and tables paint over it. The setting is per layer: a logo can sit behind the page while a DRAFT stamp stays on top. The on-screen preview always shows every layer on top, because a browser overlay cannot sit under the page image.
Because it contains characters none of the PDF fonts can draw. The built-in fonts cover Western European text, curly quotes, dashes and the ellipsis included. Polish, Czech, Turkish, Vietnamese, Greek, Cyrillic and signs such as ₹ are drawn in Noto Sans instead (upright, as Noto Sans has no italic), and the tool says when that happens. Devanagari, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, Chinese and other scripts, and emoji, cannot be drawn: the tool names those characters as you type and skips only that layer, never the whole file.
It is drawn on the visible page, in the page's own units, by the same placement code as the export, so size, rotation, tile spacing, grid inset and image scale line up on cropped and rotated pages too. Text is measured with the metrics of the font the PDF gets, and text that needs Noto Sans is previewed in Noto Sans. The one deliberate difference: layers set to draw behind content are shown on top.
