What PDF to Text Can Do
📝Layout Spacing Retention
Turns the measured gaps between words into runs of spaces, and reads a two-column page one column at a time.
📋One-Click Copy & Export
Copy the text, or save it as TXT, DOC or JSON — and a whole queue as one ZIP.
🌐Unicode & Multi-Language
Extracts international character sets, accents, and symbols, including right-to-left scripts.
⚡Runs On Your Device
Nothing is uploaded. Pages are read one at a time, and a scanned page is recognised by an OCR engine the browser downloads once, so a long scan takes a moment rather than no time at all.
Tools & Settings Reference
- Flow Text Mode
- Rejoins the lines of a paragraph into one continuous line, puts words split by a hyphen back together, and keeps a blank line as a paragraph break.
- Layout Preserved Mode
- Keeps indentation, columns and tabular alignment by spacing words out to match their measured positions on the page.
- Page Break Markers
- Starts every page with a "--- Page N ---" line, or "--- Page N (OCR) ---" for a page read with OCR. With it off, pages are separated by a blank line.
- Text Recognition (OCR)
- Pages with no text layer of their own (scans, photos) are drawn at 300 DPI and read with OCR in the language you pick, one of 55. It can also read every page from its image, or be switched off. The OCR engine and the language are downloaded from a public CDN the first time; the PDF itself never leaves your device.
Frequently Asked Questions
It reads the bounding box of every word, measures the median character width on the page, and turns each horizontal gap into that many spaces — so indentation and column separation survive as plain ASCII. Column splitting looks for a vertical gutter between blocks of prose, keeps a title or header that runs across it whole, and leaves a table of short cells unsplit; where there is no clear gutter the page is read as one block. It is a spacing heuristic, not a table parser, so check anything you plan to feed into a spreadsheet.
This tool reads the text a PDF already carries, which is exact. A page with no text layer of its own is recognised with OCR on its own and labelled, so a mixed document still comes out complete. Use the Scanned PDF to Text tool when the whole document is scanned and you want the preprocessing controls (brightness, contrast, black-and-white threshold, deskew), per-word confidence scores, or a searchable PDF as the output.
